From November 2010 to May 2011, a Group of Governmental Experts (GGE) established by the Secretary-General undertook a review of the operation of the Standardized Instrument for Reporting Military Expenditures. The Group submitted to the Secretary-General a report containing a series of recommendations with a view to encouraging wider and more consistent participation by Member States. In 2011, the General Assembly endorsed the report of the GGE.
